Sweet Revenge For England As Theo Grabs Hat-trick
September 10, 2008 by · Leave a Comment
Theo Walcott hit his first, second and third international goals as England whipped bogey team Croatia 4-1 in there second World Cup qualifying tie in Zagreb. The 19-year-old Arsenal speedster got the nod to start ahead of the experienced David Beckham and he drilled England ahead, just before Robert Kovac was sent off for an elbow on Joe Cole - that left the Chelsea player concussed.
Walcott then grabbed a near identical second, before the on-form Wayne Rooney slotted in a brilliant third. for the Three Lions. Mario Mandzukic notched a consolation for Croatia, before Walcott collected Rooney’s pass and rolled in his hat-trick.
It was a stunning performance and more than coach Fabio Capello can have dreamed for. The result puts England firmly in control of Group Six after two wins in four days, but Capello will be even more delighted by the manner io which his team played using amore familiar 4-4-2 formation.
This was Croatia first competitive home defeat and was sweet revenge for England, beating the team that ended their hopes of reaching Euro 2008. This England display was totally different from the one’s we have been used to witnessing under Ex-England manager with the team looking more like a finely tuned unit rather than a bunch talented player just thrown together.
Amir Khan Gone In 60 Seconds

Amir Khan was knocked out inside the first minute of his WBO intercontinental lightweight title defence by Colombia’s Breidis Prescott. The Bolton boxer was put down for the first time after just 30 seconds when hit by two lefts in quick succession. Khan was clearly in trouble as his legs turned to jelly in such a way that it was reminiscent Bruce Grobbelaar’s spagetti legs trick for Liverpool against AS Roma.
Khan, 21, managed to regain his feet but was clearly in trouble and the fight was as good as over. He carried on after an eight count but Prescott unleashed another barrage of quick shots and Khan hit the deck once more before being counted out after 54 seconds.
It was a first defeat for Khan, who won an Olympic silver medal at the 2004 Olympics, in the 19th fight of his professional career. Before the fight Khan said he had been working on his much-criticised defence with new trainer Jorge Rubio, but Prescott rocked the Bolton fighter within seconds of the start. Something Prescott has been predicting all week long. When Khan went down for a second time the referee called the fight off. A stiff jab snapped Khan’s head back and he was soon caught by a crisp left hook by the hard hitting Colombian.
There are no longer question marks over Khan’s chin and his ability to take a punch - it is clear he cannot. So, will Khan ever go on to win a world title?….possiblely not, you can train a fight to develope his defence but your can’t build him a new chin. This is the fourth time in a relatively short career that Khan has tasted the floor. Previously, he had got away with it against smaller, lighter pucnhing boxers - but this time he was well and truely exposed.
Watching The Best of British Fight in America

Just in the process of arranging my trip to America to watch the boxing - both the Calzaghe v Jones Jr and the Hatton v Mallinaggi fight. It’s worked out pretty well for me that Super Joe had his little hand injury. It now means i have the chance to take in both fights as they are only two weeks apart. Looking at flying to New York on the 6th of November - hopefully witnessing Calzaghe giving another has been American a thumbing then working my way across to Vegas to see The Hitman take on the idiot that had to have his dread lock cut out during his last fight because they were getting in his eye - haha..in the words of Del Boy “What a 42 carat plonker you really are”.
